The tear trough is the (upside down triangular) area between the bridge of the nose and the mid pupillary line of the cheek bone. As we age we tend to lose volume from this area, which not only causes the area to darken and appear hollow, but can also gives you a ‘tired-looking’ appearance.

How It Works

To treat this area we would recommend a medium thickness hyaluronic acid filler. However, the filler used is very much dependent on the individual’s skin condition. For example, when treating a person with thicker skin and obvious solar elastosis (degeneration of elastic tissue), a slightly, thicker hyaluronic acid filler can be used. The filler is injected into the tear trough to add volume to the hollow area.

Quick-acting, local anaesthetic cream is applied to the area to be treated for 20-25 mins. Once numb, using an extra fine needle, the filler is injected into the area. The hyaluronic acid also contains an anaesthetic making the procedure pain free. In terms of downtime, there is the chance of mild bruising. The company that manufactures the dermal filler also produces a concealer for post-treatment. The makeup has received a lot of press and is popular amongst celebrities when filming in High Definition due to its high coverage.
