Amanda Holden’s Secrets To Looking Youthful

Gracing the cover of Easy Living magazine this month, Britain’s Got Talent judge, Amanda Holden talks babies, television and her new job on ITVs talent show, Superstar. As well as regularly appearing on our TV screens, she is also mother to two young daughters, Lexi, six and Hollie, six months.

But perhaps more interesting than her behind the scenes gossip about Simon Cowell, is the 41 year olds youthful appearance. She could be forgiven for occasionally appearing less than perfect, given her hectic job and family, but Amanda is always pictured looking glamorous and youthful.

Amanda has spoke on numerous occasions about her ‘love’ of Botox, but it would seem that in order to keep up with her younger TV counterparts she is delving deeper into non-surgical treatments.

We look at the non-surgical treatments that are giving Amanda Holden her youthful glow.

Skin

Amanda’s smooth and clear complexion is free of face veins and age spots, something that is a common problem as we age. Lasers, such as the KTP Laser can clear skin of imperfections in 2-3 sessions.

In addition to this, it would appear Amanda has had further laser treatments to tighten and remove wrinkles from her skin. Unlike other CO2 lasers, the SmartXide removes a customised pattern of thousands of microscopic ‘dots’ rather than the entire skin surface. The high-energy laser causes the outer layers of the epidermis to peel away as the skin heals. The laser also heats the dermis, which stimulates the production of new collagen as the new skin cells develop, the face becomes smoother, firmer and more youthful. Another celebrity fan of laser skin resurfacing is Jennifer Anniston, who also looks far younger than her forty-something years.

Eyes

In pictures from her younger days, Amanda had quite heavy eye bags, which appear to have been recently disguised with a tear-trough filler. Injecting a hyaluronic acid filler under the eye area, smoothes the indentation and lessens shadows and dark circles. It works by gently and naturally hydrating the skin from within, ‘trapping’ water under the skin and plumping it from beneath

Mouth

It would seem that Amanda has also had a hyaluronic-acid filler injected in her nose-to-mouth lines. Hyaluronic acid fillers create a glowing complexion by gently and naturally hydrating the skin from within, ‘trapping’ water under the skin and plumping it from beneath. By replenishing hyaluronic acid under the skin, you can restore balance and improve the structure and elasticity of the skin to make the skin soft and smooth with luster and glow.

Forehead

As mentioned, Amanda has spoke of Botox injections in the past, her lack of lines suggest she has Botox around her eyes and forehead. Some women also have Botox under their eyebrows to lift the eyes. Provided this is carried out by an experienced doctor, Botox here can open the face and give a younger, more youthful look.

Holly Willoughby Tweets Make Up-Free Picture

She isn’t the first celebrity to show us their human side by posting a make up free picture on twitter. Holly Willoughby gave fans a glimpse into her home life on Sunday after waking early to put to use her domestic side and cook her family Sunday lunch.

Clearly happy with her culinary efforts, she tweeted a picture along with the caption: ‘This is shaping up to be a great Sunday!!!!

But after her busy morning, Holly, 31, revealed to her Twitter followers that despite being organised in the kitchen, she was still in her pyjamas.

Like Katy Perry and Rihanna before her, Holly posted a picture of herself preparing Sunday lunch for her family wearing just her nightie and no makeup.

She wrote: ‘Lunch done, Me however still in nightie! Makeup!x’

However, it seems the majority of British women are far less forthcoming when it comes to revealing their make up free faces. Holly’s tweet sparked a debate about whether or not other women would do the same- and it appears most of us would not.

The Results

An overwhelming 91 per cent of British women confess they would never ‘do a Holly Willoughby’ and appear in public without wearing make-up on a night out – and one third say they would never actually leave the house before putting their ‘face’ on.

Furthermore, 64 per cent would not even consider turning up at work without some degree of cosmetic retouching, and 44 per cent would never let a photo of their ‘naked’, make-up-free face be posted on Twitter.

Louise Reed, Head of Marketing at Escentual.com, the leading UK beauty website who conducted the survey, said: ‘The majority of our female customers said they would “feel naked” without their make-up in a work setting or on a night out.

‘And there’s also a significantly large number of women who would not be happy being seen au naturel on the weekend, and even more wouldn’t allow pictures of themselves without make-up to go on social media.

But what is it that makes British women feel so inadequate without their makeup?

Most women said that it was their skin condition and the worry of looking older without their makeup. Fine lines and wrinkles and skin blemishes were top of the list of concerns about their makeup free appearance.

The majority of women said they would like to be able to wear no makeup but simply lacked the confidence to do so because of the worry about appearing older or tired looking.

So what can we do?

Laser Dermabrasion is a great way to smooth out skin blemishes and give even skin tone, meaning heavy foundations and cover up makeup are no longer needed.

Botox and fillers, when done correctly, can smooth out lines and wrinkles and many women comment that (particularly around the eye area) they appear more ‘alert’.

If you are considering these treatments so you can go makeup free, only seek advice and treatment from fully qualified doctors with experience.

At Natura Skin Clinic we offer all our patients a free skin evaluation where our doctor will make recommendations based on your skin. So unlike the majority of British women, you can be makeup free- and confident!

Rachel Weisz’ Skin Secrets

We have all felt the discomfort of tight, parched skin when we’ve been out in the sun for too long. This is what’s known as skin dehydration. When there is an imbalance between the intake of water and the amount of water required by skin cells to stay healthy, it results in a dehydrated condition.

It was reported this week that Hollywood actress Rachel Weitz, regularly makes trips to her dermatologist to ensure her skin is hydrated. Its is regularly reported in the press that Rachel looks far younger than her 40+ years, perhaps its all down to her hydrated skin.

One important thing to remember is that there’s a difference between dehydrated and dry skin, although the symptoms are similar. While dehydration is a deficiency of water in the skin, dryness is the result of a loss of oil in the skin. Don’t mistake oily skin for being moisture-loaded. Oily skin has more open pores and this can lead to greater water loss.

Skin is smooth and has elasticity because below the surface water, collagen and hyaluronic acid add volume from beneath. Loss of water means loss of volume, this ultimately results in the onset of wrinkles and ageing skin.

Natura’s Top Tips For Hydrated Skin

Treatment: Rehydration Fillers

Treatment areas include the face, neck, décolletage and hands; designed to replenish the hyaluronic acid lost through ageing, hence hydrating the skin and improving its elasticity and tone.

The procedure involves injecting multiple, small amounts of the hyaluronic acid into the skin

We recommend 3 treatments for the full effect to take, however many patients notice after 2 treatments.

Prices start at £280.00 a treatment.

D is for Vitamin D

There are numerous benefits Vitamin D has on your skin and overall health. Unfortunately, unlike other vitamins such as Vitamin C or Vitamin E, Vitamin D is often overlooked despite its importance in dealing with skin care problems.

Why Vitamin D?

The reason why Vitamin D can be easy to obtain is because the main source is simply exposure to sunlight. The sun’s rays contain ultra violet light that acts on unprotected skin (no sunscreen) and allows it to manufacture Vitamin D. Although this is a very easy way to get vitamin d into your body and reap the Vitamin D benefits, sun exposure must be controlled. Too much sun exposure will lead to skin cancer and premature skin aging. Five to ten minutes of daily summer sun exposure on unprotected skin such as the face, hands, arms, and back will provide enough ultra violet light exposure to produce the required amount of vitamin d for the body.

Sources Of Vitamin D

It is difficult for many individuals to get enough Vitamin D via diet alone. Sunlight exposure is the most efficient way to get your Vitamin D intake, although some food do contain Vitamin D. Salmon for example is an excellent source. Our delicious salmon recipe is great for summer, so you can double your intake by having it on a barbeque in the sunshine!

The skin and Vitamin D are closely related because of how vitamin d is produced. However, there are also specific Vitamin D benefits for the skin.

Benefits Of Vitamin D

The main benefit of Vitamin D for the skin is in the treatment of psoriasis. In fact, Vitamin D is widely used around the world to treat this skin problem. Vitamin D plays a role in skin cell metabolism and growth. Therefore, it has shown some effectiveness in treating itching and flaking which are common symptoms of this skin problem. Studies have indicated that over the counter type vitamin d creams are not very effective at treating psoriasis because they do not contain the active vitamin d derivative. The active vitamin d form is only available in prescription creams or supplements. Several weeks of treatment are normally required to relieve the psoriasis symptoms. A big advantage is that vitamin d creams have few side effects, unlike steroid containing creams.

UVB treatments can also help relieve psoriasis. One of the main reasons is that these treatments produce vitamin d and therefore vitamin d benefits in the skin naturally.

In addition, because one of the vitamin d benefits is to act as a powerful antioxidant, vitamin d can play a role in preventing the premature aging of skin and damage to the skin structure.

Mum’s Stuffed Salmon

My lovely Mum won’t mind me sharing this recipe with you.

This recipe is great if you have lots of people coming round for dinner. It can be stuffed with all these delicious ingredients and left to marinate for as long as 8 hours before cooking. Just make sure it is suitably refrigerated. This salmon dish is bursting with flavour and can even be cooked on a barbeque. Just make sure you wrap the fish securely in thick foil. We love it at our bbq’s as it makes a nice change from the usual burnt sausages and is healthy as well delicious.

Ingredients

Whole Salmon (cleaned, butterflied, and boned, leaving head and tail intact)
2 Lemons; zest and juice
4 cloves of garlic crushed
Large bulb of fennel thinly sliced (keep the discarded parts)
Punnet of cherry vine tomatoes chopped in half
Large bunch of basil (roughly chop ¾ and leave the remaining leaves whole)
Large glass of White Wine
3 onions chopped into quarters
Seasoning
Olive Oil
You will also need some string to tie the stuffed fish together

Method

1. Heat the oven to 240 C, 220 C fan, 475 F, gas 9

2. In a bowl add the zest of the lemons, the crushed garlic, roughly chopped basil, tomatoes and chopped fennel. Season with salt and pepper and add just enough olive oil to lightly coat all the vegetables. Then add half the wine and the juice of one lemon.

3. Lay 4 pieces of string over the top of the discarded parts of the fennel and chunks of onion. This will stop the salmon sticking to the tray. Place the salmon in a roasting tray and stuff the fennel, tomato and basil mix inside the salmon. Tie the salmon together.

4. Brush the skin with a little olive oil and season with salt and pepper. Cover with foil but ensure there’s a gap of air between the salmon and the top of the foil, so that the fish can steam. Pour the remaining wine and lemon juice into the bottom of the tray.

5. Cook in the top of the oven for 40 minutes, and then undo the top of the foil so that the salmon is exposed, and return to the oven for 15 minutes to brown.

6. When the fish is cooked, peel back the foil and, using fish slices, lift the salmon onto a serving plate. Garnish with lemon wedges and the reserved basil leaves.

7. You can pour off the cooking juices and serve with the fish as a sauce. If you’re serving a buffet, the salmon can be left to cool and served at room temperature.

Serve alongside a crisp summer salad or crushed new potatoes and summer asparagus. (And a glass of cold Sauvignon Blanc!)

H & M In Hot Water Over Summer Campaign

High street favourite H & M have been slammed by doctors after their latest summer campaign features an alarmingly tanned model.

Cancer experts have said that the retail giants have irresponsibly advertised their new swimwear collection by using a model with an incredibly deep bronzed appearance. The adverts have been used across Europe in magazines, on TV, on billboards, as well as the company’s website.

The model at the centre of the controversy is 28 year old Brazilian model, Isabeli Fontana. It is not yet clear how the model achieved her deep tan, doctors are unsure whether it was from fake tan or whether she achieved it by lying in the sun. However, it seems that either way, the company is being accused of promoting an unhealthy and potentially life threatening approach to safety in the sun.

Dr Ralph Braun, from the Early Skin Cancer Centre at Zurich University Hospital, said: ‘I find this advertisement very alarming and borderline.

‘Many people, especially the young, will try to emulate this and will try to be just as brown, although with some skin types this is just not possible.’ Swiss Cancer League spokeswoman Cornelia Egli said: ‘This completely contradicts our advertising efforts.

H&M have been quick to defend the campaign and told the Swiss press they chose a model with darker skin in order to best show the strong colours on sale this season. They claim Fontana, the model featured in the controversial campaign, was selected for her naturally dark skin and that her Brazilian nationality is another contributing factor.

However, pictures published of the model appearing in other campaigns show her with a considerably lighter skin tone. Representatives for H & M went on to say, “Of course we think that this is an important subject, however the aim with our campaign is to show our swimwear collection, which we think that Isabeli Fontana is doing in a good and inspiring way,”

Inspirational or not, there is no denying that in order to achieve a tan like Isabeli’s in the campaign, one would be putting themselves at high risk of burns and more seriously, skin cancers.

The story comes just a few weeks after a New Jersey mother was summoned to court after her 5 year old daughter was subjected to dangerous UV rays as a result of accompanying her mother whilst she used a sunbed. The mother is now facing charges after police said she brought her 5-year-old daughter into a tanning booth.

It caused the girl to suffer burns to her body, according to the Essex County prosecutor’s office. Patricia Krentcil, who herself is very tanned, was charged with second-degree child endangerment. No one under the age of 14 is allowed to use a tanning booth, according to New Jersey state law.

Krentcil, 44, told The Associated Press her daughter got sunburned by being outside on a recent warm day. She said her daughter, however, had mentioned to school officials when she complained of itching that she had been to a tanning salon with her mother.

Fact. You CAN Look 10 Years Younger

Many people often wonder “How Will I Look In 10 Years?” But a new study has shown that by having a combination of cosmetic treatments you can actually look ten years younger, now.

For the first time, a study by the University of Toronto, has found that cosmetic treatments can take up to an average of nine years from person’s age appearance.

In addition to quantifying the procedure’s ‘youth-giving’ effects, researchers found that the findings held true even when the patients were younger to begin with. They also took into account other factors, which could potentially influence a person’s looks.

Perhaps one of the most interesting conclusions from the research, (published in a report by The Archives of Facial Plastic Surgery) was that the more individual procedures the patient had, the greater the number of years between real and perceived ages.

Patients looked nine years younger if they had had a combination of 3 different procedures. The findings demonstrated direct correlation between looking younger and having a varied number of treatments.

Forty first-year medical students were shown before and after photos of 60 year-olds. They were then asked to estimate the ages of the 53 women and 7 men before having any treatments and then afterwards

The patients had all had a variety of facial treatments and had each undergone between one and three procedures. 22 had a face and neck tightening, 17 had a face and neck tightening as well as an eyelid lift and a further 22 had a face and neck tightening, an eyelid lift and Botox.

Perhaps to be expected, those patients who had had more lifts looked notably younger than their peers who had had fewer procedures.

Those who had undergone one procedure looked an average of 5.7 years younger, while those who had had two procedures appeared 7.5 years younger.

The patients who had a total of three skin procedures, looked 8.4 years younger, in the eyes of the medical students.

The study has help strengthen evidence in the industry that not only do skin rejuvenation treatments work, but the results are visible in the perception of those around us.

The process of having these treatments must be done over the course of several weeks- even months. This can be favourable though. The cumulative effects of having a package of treatments means you will ultimately look younger, but the gradual progression to younger looking skin won’t be overly obvious to your friends.

Many celebrities undergo cosmetic treatments to ensure they look their best when on the red carpet and in front of the cameras. Demi Moore spends thousands of dollars maintaining her quite remarkable appearance. Many plastic surgeons and doctors have said that in their professional opinion Demi has undergone several treatments including Botox, rehydration fillers, Titan neck tightening and fractional CO2 laser treatment.

Catherine Zeta Jones Has “No Reservations” About Botox

When Catherine Zeta Jones stepped out last week with her husband, Michael Douglas, it wasn’t Mr. Douglas’s good health that was causing whispers amongst guests and journalists. Catherine appeared to be sporting a rather youthful appearance for her 42 years. An appearance many have attributed to a visit to a cosmetic doctor.

As a known smoker, Catherine Zeta Jones is one of many women who have suffer the side affects of smoking. Smoking causes skin to dramatically age, so it was particularly surprising to see Catherine with a flawless complexion. The Welsh film star looked healthy and line free when she appeared alongside her husband at the 2012 Windward School benefit at Cipriani 42nd Street in New York City.

Celebrity plastic surgeon Dr. Anthony Youn, spoke to Radar.com about Catherine’s new look. He said, “Catherine Zeta-Jones looks like she’s beginning to follow in her husband Michael Douglas’ plastic surgery footsteps,”

“Her cheeks look somewhat plump, and may be due to injections of a filler like Sculptra. Her forehead and crows feet are also very smooth for a woman her age, likely a result of Botox injections,” he explained.

The smoothness of her cheeks makes Catherine look young and healthy, and while she is both, the healthy skin tone of her cheeks may have been supplemented with a small amount of filler. This helps explain the lack of lines around her mouth as well as the firmness of her lower face.

Dr. Youn explained, “Botox is typically not injected under the eyes, though, hence the wrinkles in her lower eyelids,”

It’s not safe to use Botox below the eyes, so there are still fine lines and wrinkles there, but the tops and outer edges of the eye are smooth and healthy looking. Catherine is a perfect example of how a combination of Botox and fillers can help keep the face young with minimal intervention.

Catherine and her family have been under significant stress since husband Michael was diagnosed with throat cancer in August 2012. It is therefore understandable that given the recent stress and persistent press scrutiny, Catherine may have needed some help from non-surgical treatments. She has however, managed to strike a balance between preserving her natural beauty and stalling the sands of time.

Courteney Cox Opens Up About Ageing

Getting older in LA, in front of the scrutiny of the media can be a rough time. Especially when you’re the star of a global TV show for a decade, commanding a million dollars per episode in its final two series.

So its no wonder that 43 year old Courtney Cox admitted recently that she too treats her fine lines and wrinkles with a little help from one of her friends, Botox.

Gracing the cover of InStyle Magazine the actress talked openly about how she manages to keep herself looking young.

“Aging gracefully is one thing, but trying to slow it down is another. Sometimes I use Botox. Compared to most, I use it very sparingly”

Courteney is more recently know for her role in another hit TV show “Cougar Town” and with its success has brought many more public appearances where she faces the glare of the camera. Non-surgical treatments such as Botox, when administered professionally, can achieve quick and painless results. Courteney strikes the perfect balance between visible yet natural looking results.

Like many women Courteney recognises the importance of having the right people carry out the treatments.

“I don’t have a problem with any of that stuff; if it makes you feel better about yourself and it’s done properly, then fine.”

The actress went on to tell the magazine that she researches ways of keeping a youthful appearance. For many women getting older can be a hard time and more often than not it isn’t because they feel old, its because the tell tale signs of ageing are beginning to show.

“Getting older isn’t easy for anybody. Especially here in Los Angeles. So let’s be clear: looking youthful is something I do a lot of research on. Man, I could use some Botox right now.”

So, if like Courteney you are thinking about having Botox, what should you look for?

1. How much should you have?

Botox shouldn’t give you a frozen face. Remember sometimes less is more.

2. Who should administer it?

If you want visible yet natural looking results ensure your Botox is administered by an experienced doctor.

3. Do your research

Speak to your doctor and get a professional opinion on whether Botox is the right treatment for you.

Kate Winslet Believes In (Looking) Better In New Sky TV Advert

Kate Winslet - Harpers Bazaar

In 2011 Kate Winslet spoke out against plastic surgery with the support of fellow Brit actresses Emma Thompson and Rachel Weisz. In an interview with Glamour magazine Kate was asked if she had changed over the last six years, because she had jokingly told them in 2005 that she might be getting lipo and Botox in her 30s. Well, did she?

“My face is still moving, right? No, I have never tried any of that stuff…. I don’t have parts of my body that I hate or would like to trade for somebody else’s or wish I could surgically adjust into some fantasy version of what they are,” Winslet replied,

“It goes against my morals, the way that my parents brought me up and what I consider to be natural beauty, I will never give in.

But a year on Kate appears to be suspiciously smooth for her 35 years, appearing to not have aged since her role in 1997 blockbuster Titanic. Starring in the a new advert for Sky TV, the 35 year old would appear to have undergone some non-surgical work, most likely Botox.

So what’s the verdict?

Kate has managed to achieve a perfect balance. Expertly administered Botox means Kate is still able to move her face whilst at the same time tackling the onset of wrinkles. Looking naturally youthful without a hint of the dreaded ‘frozen face’.

Perhaps she is like many other actresses who don’t consider a little Botox and/or fillers to be a ‘surgical procedure’ (notice Kate’s emphasis on “surgical”).

Whether she admits it or not, Kate has proved you don’t need a titanic amount of Botox. A little goes a long way!

Picture Perfect Jennifer’s Laser Obsession

Jennifer Aniston CO2 Laser

With a new film out and a recent induction to the Hollywood Walk Of Fame, Jennifer Aniston has had a great start to 2012. The actress looks far younger than her 43 years, but how is she maintaining that picture perfect complexion?

Last night the Marley and Me star opened up and revealed exactly how she manages to stay looking so youthful. Speaking to Conan O’Brien on his late-night chatshow, Jennifer revealed that she has become obsessed with laser therapy.

The former Friends star admitted that as a true ‘California Girl’ she spent years basking in the sun which despite making her feel good, left her skin with sun spots and the early signs of aging.

Aniston explained: ‘I did this thing called like, a peel. It’s extremely intense – you don’t realise you look like a battered burn victim for a week!’ she said,

She went on: ‘Then [the dead skin on your face] just kind of falls off – for eight days.’

Jennifer Aniston Fractional C02Jennifer Aniston Laser Peel

The CO2 laser Aniston is a fan of works by causing the outer layers of the epidermis to peel away as the skin heals. The laser heats the dermis, which stimulates the production of new collagen. As the new skin cells develop, the face becomes smoother, firmer and more youthful.

But you needn’t travel to Hollywood to achieve the same A-Lister results as Jennifer. At Natura Skin Clinic we offer the same cutting edge laser technology used to achieve Aniston’s fantastic results, the SmartXide Laser.

Perhaps Jennifer just let slip one of Hollywood’s biggest kept skin secrets.
