Okay, so we might all go into hibernation over the winter, but the spring’s nearly here and it’s time to get your skincare routine back on track. While a few bad habits might’ve crept in during the cold dark months, now’s the ideal time to get our skin ready for the sunshine.

Cleansing

Ditch that bar of soap, and invest in a hydrating facial cleanser and toner. Soap dries skin out completely, causing patching and flaking. This can even lead to the skin over-producing oil to compensate. Though soap might only be an emergency measure when we run out of cleanser, your skin will thank you for avoiding it.

Exfoliation is a key part of a cleansing routine, but be careful not to overdo it. Using a scrub that is too harsh can cause micro-tears in the skin and can lead to scarring and dark spots. So, say goodbye to that tired old apricot scrub and treat your skin to a gentle exfoliating cleanser – one with bursting beads is great, as they won’t cause any micro-damage to the skin.

Moisturising

This is very important as cold and brisk weather quickly dries out even the most supple of skin. If you suffer from dry skin you’ll know the value of keeping your skin hydrated. Rehydrating the skin stops fine lines and wrinkles, keeping your skin soft and supple. However, even those with oily skin need to fit this into their routine. Your skin could be producing even more oil in order to build a protective layer, something that a good moisturiser will provide.

Something we may not consider during overcast weather is sunscreen – this is vital for protecting skin from all sorts of aging damage. If putting on sunscreen just seems like one step too many, then try using a moisturiser with an SPF of 15. This will protect skin from over 90% of UV rays and is great for everyday use – this is especially important when the sunshine finally gets here!

So, shake up that skincare routine and put a spring in your step, your skin will be very grateful.
