We all know the importance of eating healthily, and the impact this can have on our skin. So, what are the foods that are most packed full of those vital vitamins? Skin super foods are all jammed with beneficial nutrients, and can boost the skin benefits of your diet.

Berries

Berries are high in antioxidants, but if you’re really getting on board with the super foods, acerola cherries are some of the best. Weight for weight, they have 65 times more vitamin C than an orange, and are also full of vitamins B and A. These are all essential for a healthy complexion.

Vitamin C plays an essential role in strengthening and healing skin, so helps with both acne and fine lines and wrinkles. If you can’t get hold of the fruit, then some health shops do sell a powdered extract of acreola cherries – they’re just that beneficial.

Melon

Canteloupe melon contains an antioxidant enzyme called Superoxide Dismutase. While that might not mean much to those of us without a science degree, this does have a big effect on fighting free radicals, which are big causers of ageing damage to the skin.

This enzyme stops free radical cells from oxidising with other molecules, which is what causes them to damage to our skin. Vitamins A, C and E also have a similar effect. This is one reason why a diet high in fruits and vegetables is essential for keeping your skin healthy.

Avocado

Avocados have many benefits to beauty, and thankfully are a great addition to any summer salad. They have high levels of the anti-oxidant glutathione, which is thought to have anti-ageing properties. Avocados also contain carotenoid lutein, which helps with the skin’s elasticity and hydration.

Of course, drinking water is essential for healthy skin. So, while you’re tucking into all that juicy fruit and veg, make sure to complement this with plenty of good old H2O.
