Leg veins pose no real risk to your health but can cause discomfort and embarrassment appearance wise. Unless treated properly, these types of veins will never fade. Leg veins are a common problem and quite often mean that people feel uncomfortable in certain clothes and self-conscious.
How it works
These veins can be effectively treated using the ND Yag laser. The ND Yag is used because the laser light has an affinity for the deoxygenated haemoglobin (veins that have less oxygen and more CO2.)
The laser light penetrates the skin keeping it intact until it reaches the vessel. Once the laser energy reaches the vessel, it acts in two ways; first the laser light is absorbed by the red cells, this concentrates the laser light, generating extra heat. This heat then leads to an inflammatory process on the lumen of the vessel which causes the vessels to close and disappear.
Before having the laser treatment, an anaesthetic cream is applied to the area to be treated. After 25 minutes the skin will feel numb, this makes the procedure completely painless.
Most patients achieve the desired results after three treatments. Following treatment, we recommend wearing compression stockings for at least a week to reduce symptoms like bruising and tenderness. Wearing compression stockings also reduces the chance of blood clot formation.
