• Fitness is the key

Here at Natura we believe in the benefit of a healthy, natural approach to fitness. However, there are a few healthy habits that can cause aging damage to our skin – thankfully a few of these are very easy to put right!

    Jogging

Going for a regular run is great for your overall fitness, but it can age your skin causing ‘runner’s face’. The up and down motion of running can reduce elasticity and give a weathered look, and unprotected UV exposure adds to premature skin damage. Make sure to slap on that sunscreen to avoid this. Try to run on softer ground, steering clear of concrete when possible – this is also a great tip for avoiding injury.

    Low Fat Diets

Avoiding saturated fats and processed foods is of course great for a healthy diet. However, not all fats are evil – essential fatty acids are essential for maintaining healthy skin. By making sure to eat ‘good’ fats, found in nuts, seeds and fish, you can help banish wrinkles and keep your skin smooth and supple.

    Make Up

When we exercise, the pores in our skin open up and make up can clog pores by sinking deeper into the skin. This can make even the most flawless skin suffer from blackheads, spots and enlarged pores. By braving the barefaced look when exercising and using an exfoliator afterwards skin can stay fresh and healthy.

    Saunas

Over time, saunas can play havoc with the strength of veins and capillaries. After exercising, capillaries rise to the surface of our skin to help us cool off. The strain caused by the heat of the sauna puts stress on these tiny vessels, and over time can lead to spider or thread veins. If you do already suffer from these, here at Natura we could help with our gold standard vein treatments.

So, by incorporating a few quick fixes into your daily routine, you can save your skin from a lot of everyday wear and tear.

  • Alleviate Migraines

Posted by: On: 21st February 2012

Botox is one of the most well-known cosmetic treatments for fine lines and wrinkles. Though we might be familiar with its conventional uses, recently there have been calls for it to be available on the NHS for a very different purpose.

Botox has been found to have some positive effect on chronic migraines. No one quite knows why – but it could act as a muscle relaxant, blocking painful nerve signals.

Chronic migraines affect nearly 2% of adults in the UK. They involve having headaches for 15 days a month for 3 months, affecting people’s ability to work . With nausea, light sensitivity and vision distortion, they really can be severe and frustrating.

Though Botox has been shown to have some benefit, the National Institute for Clinical Excellence has called for more substantial evidence before recommending Botox as an NHS treatment.

Botox was approved in 2010 as a treatment for chronic migraine, but there needs to be greater certainty before it can be offered by the NHS on a wider basis – the placebo effect may be distorting positive results.

The cost effectiveness of Botox as a treatment could also be questioned. Top ups are often needed every few months which means a mounting expense for the NHS. However, if we factor in the cost of long term inability to work, it does begin to look more affordable.

Here at Natura, we’re always interested in new applications for existing treatments. A final decision on this use of Botox is expected in June, and we look forward to knowing the verdict.

Whether or not Botox is approved for migraines, it remains one of the most trusted cosmetic treatments for facial lines and unwanted sweating.

Natura remain committed to achieving natural and gradual results. With our range of treatments for fine lines and wrinkles, you can be sure to find an option that suits your individual needs.
