Beautifying Smoothies: Coconut Oil

Getting a glowing complexion doesn’t just require you to apply sunblock and anti ageing creams (although this does help). It also means paying attention to your diet and what you are eating.

Investing in a blender and making your own skin friendly smoothies are a great way to keep your skin healthy- and they taste great too. Nourish skin from the inside out with these delicious smoothie recipes. This week we are looking at the health benefits of coconut.

Healthy fats such as coconut oil are crucial for healthy skin. Coconut oil contains lauric acid, which has antimicrobial properties. Coconut also contains vitamin E, which is essential for healthy skin growth and repair. The saturated fat in coconut oil is even known to protect the skin from UV damage from the sun. In addition to helping skin repair, coconut oil has several other major health benefits including:

  • Strengthening immune system
  • Increasing metabolism (thus aids in weight loss)
  • Improving digestion
  • Beneficial for the heart
  • Boosts key mineral absorption (calcium and magnesium)
  • Antifungal and antibacterial
  • Provides long lasting energy
  • Great for skin and hair (internally and topically)

This coconut oil smoothie will help nourish your skin from the inside out. Coconut oil is available from health food shops such as Holland And Barratt and online.
