How It Works
The laser light penetrates the skin keeping it intact until it reaches the vessel. Once the laser energy reaches the vessel, it is immediately absorbed. At this point the light energy turns into heat that causes the line of the vessel (the vein) to become inflamed. This triggers the healing process and veins gradually reduce in diameter and disappear. The laser energy is delivered through a chilled window to protect the patient’s skin and provide comfort.
These veins can be effectively treated using the KTP laser. The laser light penetrates the skin keeping it intact until it reaches the vessel. Once the laser energy reaches the vessel, it acts in two ways; first the light is absorbed by the red cells, this concentrates the laser light, generating extra heat. This heat then leads to an inflammatory process on the lumen of the vessel which causes the vessels to close and disappear.
Before having the laser treatment, an anaesthetic cream is applied to the area to be treated. After 25 minutes the skin will feel numb, this makes the procedure completely painless. Most patients achieve the desired results after two to three treatments but this does depend on the severity of the veins and how many you have.
Following treatment, we recommend using a moisturiser containing a SPF of at least 20. An effective product for post treatment is Avene Antirougeurs Cream. Containing SPF 20, this moisturiser is ideal for post laser as it helps to reduce facial redness and the sensation of heat on the skin; soothes irritation and protects your skin from UV rays.
